Volta River Authority Awards Contract to Synexus Global

The World Bank financed contract will involve a review of the last generation and transmission plans for the West Africa Power Pool, development of a strategy for hydropower operations, and a process to implement that strategy. The process will include use of LT Vista for long-term strategic planning, and ST Vista for short-term hourly scheduling.

VRA is a national power company in Ghana that owns and operates two large hydroelectric plants (Akosombo at 1000-MW and Kpong at 168-MW), and the Takoradi Combined Cycle plant (330-MW). The study will maximize the effectiveness of the hydro facilities, and will minimize thermal fuel requirements.
