Southern California Edison Uses Vista for Marketing

SCE currently uses Vista as follows (See attached SCE Project Description sheet):

  • Inflow Vista to forecast a range of plausible “extended streamflow predictions” (ESP), as well as a single short-term deterministic inflow forecast.
  • LT Vista to assist in the long-term strategic planning of the Big Creek hydroelectric facility water usage, and their Hoover Energy contract.
  • ST Vista to assist in day-ahead pre-scheduling of the Big Creek facilities and Hoover contract. The pre-schedule provides the joint optimum hourly schedule of several products; including power, spinning reserve, non-spinning reserve, up-reg, down-reg, increments, and decrements.

Synexus is currently extending the capabilities of the product to provide the following:

  • Energy bid curve, which is the marginal cost of each power increment from minimum system output to maximum system output, for each hour of the schedule.
  • Marginal cost for ancillary products for each hour, or block of hours.
  • Marginal pumping costs for each hour.

SCE is located in Rosemead California, serving more than 13 million people in a 50,000 square-mile area of central, coastal and Southern California. The utility has been providing electric service in the region for 119 years. Its main hydro asset, known as Big Creek, was America's first large-scale integrated hydroelectric project, begun in 1911. It is an integrated hydroelectric project consisting of 23 generating units in nine powerhouses with a generating capacity of approximately 1,000-MW, and six major reservoirs with a storage capacity of more than 560,000 acre-feet. SCE also has a long term contract for a portion of the output from the Hoover Generating Station.
