Synexus CDM methodology wins UN approvalThe Clean Development Mechanism (CDM) is a global program created to help reach the Kyoto Protocol's emission reduction targets for Annex 1 (developed) countries. The approved Synexus methodology describes how to calculate and verify the emission reductions associated with decision support tools. These tools are used to improve the operating efficiency and overall output of power production from existing hydropower generation assets. Through use of the Synexus methodology and a Decision Support System (DSS), such as Synexus' proprietary Vista DSS software, a hydropower station in a developing country may qualify to earn CDM certified emission reduction credits (CER's) for the incremental energy produced by the DSS. The CER's may be used to offset excess CO 2 emissions in developed countries. The same methodology may also be used to qualify for other CO 2 credits, which also carry significant potential commercial value. Synexus Global®, with offices in Niagara Falls and Montreal, is a specialized software affiliate of Hatch and Hatch Energy. Synexus develops and supplies water resource and hydraulic generation dispatch optimization software, and the associated specialized study services to major hydro generation asset owners and operators worldwide. Over the next several months, Synexus will explore how to best capitalize on its approved methodology. It is anticipated that the ability to create emission reduction credits will translate into increased business opportunities for the Vista decision support system, helping Synexus to grow its global market leadership position in the hydro optimization field. |
