Central Valley Project Implementation Nears Completion

The Western Area Power Administration (Sierra Nevada Region) and US Bureau of Reclamation are near the end of Vista implementation.

Vista has been implemented for the eight-plant hydroelectric system, totaling 1872-MW, at both the Western offices in Folsom and the USBR offices in Sacramento. The applications have separate database servers, but are replicated on a 10-s interval to ensure that both agencies have the same, and current, data. Testing is nearing completion on LT Vista and ST Vista for operations scheduling.

New functionality has been added to define a maximum or minimum flow at one location that is dependant on the flow at another location. This is referred to as a “conditional flow” constraint. New development is also underway to enhance the calculation of the available reserves, subject to a condition that downstream spill will not be triggered or aggravated.

Focus at the present time is to perfect the flow of real-time data into Vista for project data, committed loads and market prices; as well as to ensure that Vista is well integrated into the business process practiced by Western and USBR.
