Synexus Global is assisting Manitoba Hydro evaluate the effects of integrating wind generation into it’s predominantly hydroelectric generation fleet.

AUTO Vista has been modified to represent the uncertainty of wind generation. In this version of the model, the forecast of wind is available only for the next day, and seasonal average values are assumed for the ongoing period. Operations schedules are established daily over the study period, based on the wind generation forecast available each day.

The model is being implemented for a number of trial 4-week study periods in which the base case considers hydroelectric generation only, and the comparison case incorporates wind generation. Several wind generation scenarios are being analyzed. The analysis will determine in detail the incremental power benefits, as well as operational issues that arise from adding significant wind generation into a hydroelectric generation system, including reservoir operation and regulation reserve.
