Volta River Authority Gears Up for Vista Installation VRA is a national power company that owns and operates two large hydroelectric plants (Akosombo at 1020 MW and Kpong at 160 MW), the Takoradi Combined Cycle plant (330 MW), and the Takoradi Gas Turbine (220 MW). The study will maximize the effectiveness of the hydro facilities, and will minimize thermal fuel requirements. The contract involves a review of the last generation and transmission plans, development of a strategy for hydropower operations, and a process to be put into place to implement that strategy. The process includes use of LT Vista for long-term strategic planning, and ST Vista for short-term hourly scheduling. The indicative update of the generation and transmission plans has been completed by Tom Lavender of Water Resources and Power Planning Corporation, assisted by Wesley Stevens, Economist, and Viv Calvalho, Transmission Planner. Dr. Semiu Lawal and support staff of Synexus Global are currently testing LT Vista and ST Vista, and are preparing the associated training programs. Installation and training will take place before the end of June, 2009. The images illustrate output from LT Vista. |
