Saskpower Unveils Hydro Modernization Project

SaskPower provides quality electric service to 426,000 customers over 526 600 km² of diverse terrain.  The company operates 14 generation facilities with an installed capacity of 2980 MW, of which 7 are hydroelectric facilities have a combined capacity of 855 MW.

The hydro facilities include:

• three small plants in the Athabasca watershed,
• Island Falls (104 MW) on the Churchill River,
• Coteau Creek (186 MW) on the South Saskatchewan River, and
• two projects on the Saskatchewan River - E.B. Campbell (288 MW) and Nipawin (255 MW).

Subsequent phases, if approved, would provide additional capabilities as follows:

• Real-Time monitoring of performance.
• LT Vista runs to assist in water management.
• ST Vista runs to provide day-ahead hydro power schedules.
