Saskpower Unveils Hydro Modernization Project

SaskPower provides quality electric service to 426,000 customers over 526 600 km2 of diverse terrain.  The company operates 14 generation facilities with an installed capacity of 2980 MW, of which 7 are hydroelectric facilities have a combined capacity of 855 MW.

The hydro facilities include:

  • three small plants in the Athabasca watershed,
  • Island Falls (104 MW) on the Churchill River,
  • Coteau Creek (186 MW) on the South Saskatchewan River, and
  • two projects on the Saskatchewan River - E.B. Campbell (288 MW) and Nipawin (255 MW).

Subsequent phases, if approved, would provide additional capabilities as follows:

  • Real-Time monitoring of performance.
  • LT Vista runs to assist in water management.
  • ST Vista runs to provide day-ahead hydro power schedules.
