US Bureau of Reclamation and Western Area Power Administration Award Synexus Global the Central Valley Project Model

After a successful completion of the Pilot, on September 30, 2003, USBR and WAPA have awarded Synexus Global the contract for a full implementation of Vista for the Central Valley Project (CVP).

The Western Area Power Administration (WAPA) has an installed capacity of 2310 MW and administers the Central Valley project (CVP) located in the northern region of California.

In June 2002, WAPA contracted Synexus Global to perform a pilot application of the Vista Decision Support System on the upper system. The system configuration of the Pilot consisted of 5 power plants totaling 1260 MW and 6 reservoirs, 3 of which are seasonal.

After a successful completion of the Pilot, on September 30, 2003, USBR and WAPA have awarded Synexus Global the contract for a full implementation of Vista for the Central Valley Project (CVP).

With the full implementation of Vista, Phase I, Synexus will be adding an additional 2 power plants (229 MW), on the American River, and 1 power plant (383 MW) with 2 reservoirs, on the Stanislaus River.

The Vista suite will assist operations staff in both short- and long-term generation scheduling to maximize the value of the water resource and the power generation. It also assists planning staff in analyzing alternative operating policies and system upgrades or developments.

Phase I of the Implementation began in October 2003 and will continue into the spring of 2004. Phase II, comprising the large pumping plants and pump-generating is planned to be undertaken in the fall of 2004.
